As both a sister and a medical doctor, Dominican Sister Mary Diana Dreger embodies how caring for the sick is a core value of the Catholic faith. She hopes that all Catholic medical professionals attending the retreat will encounter Jesus in the gospels. “In his care for the poor, the sick, the suffering, Jesus invites us into an intimacy with Him by listening to His word.”
Providing a referral network of faithful healthcare professionals and a unique financial model that aims to accommodate different healthcare payment methods, the mission of MyCatholicDoctor.com is to answer the call of Jesus Christ in Luke 10:9, when He said, “cure the sick who are there, and say to them, ‘The Kingdom of God has come near to you.’”
Medical Professionals who are not members of MyCatholicDoctor are still invited to join their conference track.
Through the conference and retreat, all Catholic in the medical profession and healthcare field are invited to grow in relationship with Jesus, in conviction of their values, and in how their faith informs the care they provide. As the Catechism says in 1509:
“Heal the sick!” (Mt 10:8) The Church has received this charge from the Lord and strives to carry it out by taking care of the sick as well as by accompanying them with her prayer of intercession. She believes in the life-giving presence of Christ, the physician of souls and bodies.
The retreat Mass and confessions will be led by Fr. Christopher Kubat, National Chaplain of the Catholic Medical Association. The retreat includes rosary, devotions, adoration, silence, meditation and reflection.
Our Lady of Good Counsel Retreat House offers a sanctuary of prayer and recollection on a spacious acreage near Waverly. There are 50 single rooms, each with a private bath.
